About

The primary purpose of ARTA is to promote Real Tennis in Australia. This fits into two areas, operational and strategic.

From an operational perspective, ARTA:

  • Acts as the peak representative body for Real Tennis clubs in Australia and their members, by participating as a member of the International Tennis Committee, the International World Championship Committee, Real Tennis Online and other bodies as appropriate.

  • Determines rules of play and specifications for courts, racquets and balls in Australia.

  • Coordinates with Member Clubs a calendar of national Real Tennis events, including rules of each tournament relating to sponsorship, entry fees, trophies and tournament play.

  • In relation to Australian national tournaments, it allocates dates and venues amongst Member Clubs, and sponsors or provides other support for national tournaments.

  • Manages our participation in international events, whether held in Australia or elsewhere, including the selection and support of Australian teams.

  • Is actively involved in the ownership and management of Real Tennis Online, the key infrastructure asset for our sport.

All money that ARTA receives goes to tennis. Other than our statutory fees and charges, no ARTA funds are spent on items such as delegate travel and meeting costs.

Our two key strategic goals are:

  1. to support the development of more women and younger players in Australia.

  2. to establish a sustainable financial base which can then fund our future tennis aspirations and maintain the Australian Open as our premier event for men and women players.
